A former Stanford University freshman and the star of the university’s swim team is facing rape charges after he was caught sexually assaulting an unconscious woman on Tuesday.
The suspect, Brock Allen Turner, 19, was a three-time All-American high school swimmer in Dayton, Ohio, and joined Stanford’s swim team last year.
Turner reportedly met the victim, who was not a student, at a party in the area near fraternities and campus housing.
At around 1 a.m. on January 18, two cyclists saw Turner on top of the woman on the ground near fraternity houses on campus. The woman was apparently intoxicated and unconscious. Turner tried to flee but was held by the two men while they called the police.
Turner was then sent to jail, while the victim was sent to the hospital.
The former raising swimming star was charged with raping an unconscious person, raping an intoxicated person, sexual penetration with a foreign object and assault while attempting to commit rape. He posted $150,000 bail and could face up to 10 years behind bars if charges convicted.
