Convicted mass murderer Charles Manson and his young fiancee failed to meet the deadline for their marriage license this week.
Afton Elaine “Star” Burton recently filed to marry Manson, 80, who is responsible for the Tate killing spree of 1969.
“Charlie and Star were not able to complete their wedding ceremony due to an unexpected interruption in logistics,” Burton wrote on the Manson Direct website.
Burton, 27, reportedly moved from Illinois to California in 2007 so she could visit the convicted killer. According to Burton, the pair fell in love. She said she intended to marry Manson, in part to help prove his innocence.
“There’s certain things next of kin can do,” she told the AP following the announcement in November of 2014. “It’s going to happen.”
But before the pair even filed for a marriage license, Manson told the Rolling Stone in 2013 that the marriage plans were “a bunch of garbage.”
“That’s trash,” Manson said. “We’re just playing that for public consumption.”
While Burton insists they will re-apply for a marriage license, novelist Daniel Simone told the New York Post the wedding was called off because Burton just wanted the rights to Manson’s body.
“Manson never consented to the wedding in the first place and never will,” Simone said.
He told the Post that Burton planned to put Manson’s body on display for profit.
