2015-04-14 1

A police officer is in the hospital and two suspects under arrest after officials say the officer was hit by a car and dragged for more than 30 feet in New Jersey.

The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. Saturday when police say Riverside Township Police Sgt. Amaya Urtasun approached a suspicious vehicle in the Riverside Elementary School parking lot on East Washington Street.

Authorities say the driver, 23-year-old Brendon Belton of Willingboro, refused to show his hands when asked by Sgt. Urtasun.

The suspects then put the car in drive, hitting the officer and dragging her 30-40 feet before running head-on into an unoccupied police vehicle.

Other police officers on the scene arrested Belton and a passenger, 39-year-old Bonnie Manning of Riverside.

Sgt. Urtasun was transported to Cooper University Medical Center to be treated for knee and abdominal injuries.

Belton and Manning have been arrested and charged with attempted manslaughter, aggravated assault and other offenses.
