A New York Home Depot has reportedly fired one of its employees for having a lip tattoo of his ex-girlfriend's name.
Kirk Soccorso of Mastic, NY told News 12 Long Island he got his "ISIS" tattoo four years ago, and that his muse was named for the Egyptian goddess of magic.
Soccorso reportedly worked at the Home Depot in Patchogue for six months as a tool demonstrator, but received his pay from an independent Florida marketing firm.
He said he overheard his coworkers talking about the Islamic State and showed his tattoo to one of them. Shortly after, Home Depot and the marketing firm told him he couldn't return to work.
"I honestly didn't know what the acronym meant until just recently," he said during an interview.
But Home Depot released a statement saying the tattoo wasn't what led to the decision to fire Soccorso.
"It's a personnel matter, and the decision wasn't based on the tattoo," Home Depot spokesperson Stephen Holmes said.
