Chainsaw road rage: Canadian with running power tool menaces family after traffic incident

2015-04-14 1

An angry driver in St. Jerome, Quebec was caught on camera yelling taunts, and brandishing his chainsaw at a family as he stood outside their car on Sunday evening.

Around 7 p.m., a couple and two young children were driving back from a family holiday when they were cut off by a minivan with an infant in the backseat. Road rage ensued as the couple followed the vehicle and called the police.

The minivan eventually drove into a dead end road. Since the couple's car was blocking the only exit, the driver of the minivan got out of his vehicle and took out his chainsaw from the backseat. The 37-year-old chainsaw-wielding man was arrested at his home the next day, and is awaiting trial. He has no prior arrests. Saint Jerome police spokesman Robin Pouliot is quoted as saying: "He will face charges of assault with a weapon for starters...and he could face more charges."

The video of the road rage incident has garnered hundreds of thousands of views since it was uploaded. Karine Cyr who recorded the video says she regrets deciding to follow the driver, and advises people in a similar situation to let the police handle it.
