An unidentified 18-year-old inmate at a Phoenix, Arizona jail was caught on surveillance video Wednesday morning violently resisting detention officers after a psychiatric ward assault.
The inmate, who was booked into Lower Buckeye Jail in Phoenix two weeks ago, is seen on surveillance video walking in a room he was not authorized to be in before being approached by two officers, New York Daily Mail reports.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said four detention officers were taken to a nearby hospital, two of them had been knocked unconscious.
Scott Beatty, a 15-year employee, who is currently in intensive care will need reconstructive surgery after he suffered broken facial bones and brain hemorrhaging, Arpaio said.
Arpaio added that the inmate who was in the mental health unit and assaulted the officers without reason was in an unauthorized area of the facility.
The footage shows the detention officers asking the inmate to return to his cell, before he attacks multiple officers.
The inmate was hit at least four times with a taser, but didn't appear to be phased until backup arrived.
