A woman was shot dead in front of her son by a stranger after they were laughing at him while driving through Hawthorne, California on Wednesday.
Denise Chiffon Berry, 44, was driving with her son along Rosecrans Avenue when they saw one of three people in another car with his feet hanging out the window. She and her son laughed and made eye contact with the person. She then passed them but the men started following her, according to Daily Breeze.
Berry sought help from a patrolman and was told to park her car in front of the police vehicle. As she was backing up her car, the men drove up next to her car and stopped. The front seat passenger got out and opened fire at the woman and her son with two handguns. The officer at the scene then shot and killed the gunman, Daily Breeze reported.
Berry died at the scene while her son was injured and remains hospitalized. The gunman was identified as Robert Washington. The two other men in the car with the gunman were arrested on suspicion of murder and conspiracy, KTLA reported.
