Gunmen attack university in Kenya close to the border with Somalia

Gunmen have launched an attack on a university campus in north east Kenya.

Heavy gunfire and explosions have been heard at Garissa University College close the frontier with Somalia.

It is believed two security guards have been killed while two police officers and a student are being treated for gunshot wounds.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the attackers have taken hostages.

Witnesses say the assailants targeted a mosque during morning prayers.

No group has claimed responsibility, but Islamic militants Al-Shabab are active in the area.
