Palestine joins International Criminal Court

2015-04-02 2

Palestine has formally become a member of the International Criminal Court, a development that could lead to Israeli officials being indicted for war crimes. Prosecutors now have jurisdiction over all future war crimes committed on Palestinian territory although Palestinian authorities have pushed for backdating the Court's jurisdiction to June 13, 2014. That would mean that the 2014 Israeli assault on Gaza would come under the Court's jurisdiction. Palestinian residents and political parties expressed their joy over the achievement. At the same time, the Palestinian Fishermen Committee in Gaza reported that the Israeli Navy shot at Palestinian fishermen once again. No injuries were reported.
