Palestine: March 30, Land Day, marked with demonstrations

2015-03-30 4

March 30, Land Day, is the date on the Palestinian national calendar that commemorates the first nationwide protests, marches, and a general strike by Palestinian citizens of Israel in 1976 in response to Tel Aviv's announcement of a plan to expropriate thousands of acres of land for security and settlement purposes. This year demonstrations were held in the Gaza Strip, the occupied West Bank, and within Israel. In Gaza, Hamas, the Popular Front and the Liberation of Palestine, and Islamic Jihad held a rally. In the West Bank clashes occurred with Israeli forces, leaving 15 injured in Nablus after police opened fire on protesters with tear gas and rubber bullets. Noor Harazeen reports from Gaza. teleSUR
