Early Monday morning Mexico's military forces and federal police led an operation that captured the leader of the violent Zetas drug cartel in the city of Nuevo Laredo. Ramiro Perez Moreno, known as "el Ramo," allegedly controlled the northern states of Coahuila, Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon. He was expected to assume leadership of the entire organization after the recent capture of Omar Trevino, one of the founders of the cartel that has its roots in an elite Mexican anti-narcotics force that defected to start the criminal organization.
