CANADA: WEB USERS CELEBRATE ODIN’S BIRTHDAY
Last week Canadian mum Melissa Camus posted a message to Facebook asking social networkers to send her son, Odin, a message on his birthday. Odin has Asperger’s and when he sent out invites to classmates for his 13th birthday party, no-one RSVP'd. So his mum reached out to web users and they responded en masse, and got the party started.
Thousands of Canadians posted messages and photos to social networks last Friday under the #OdinBirthday hashtag which began trending across the country: they were wishing Odin many happy returns and also voicing their support, to let the young man know he wasn`t on his own.
A massive show of solidarity, with some sharing their thoughts through videos. The people who posted these clips to YouTube celebrated his birthday in song …
And in addition to the deluge of online messages, the shout outs on social networks, the virtual birthday cards, some turned up in person to help Odin celebrate his 13th birthday. As we can see from a number of amateur photos and videos doing the rounds online, several hundred people showed up on Friday night to celebrate with the birthday boy at a bowling alley. He was taken aback and over the moon, as was his mum who truly succeeded in giving him a birthday to remember …
