Nation's Oldest Female Veteran Passes Away

Lucy Coffey, who was the country's oldest female veteran, has passed away at the age of 108.

Lucy Coffey, who was the country's oldest female veteran, has passed away at the age of 108. Last year, she got to visit the White House and meet President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. 

They have since learned of her passing. In a statement, Obama noted, "It was clear that the passage of time never dampened her patriotic love of country or her pioneering spirit. As we remember her life and salute her service, our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and loved ones today."

Coffey worked in a supermarket prior to entering in the military. In 1943, at the age of 37, she enlisted  in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.
