The Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine is a hospital, research center, school of medicine and diagnostic center, internationally recognized in its achievements in identifying and preventing the spread of communicable diseases. In today’s program our host Cristina Escobar interviews Deputy Director, Dr. Lupe Guzman about the successful efforts of Cuban medical personnel in combating the Ebola virus in Africa, recent work in dealing with HIV-AIDS, and the high success rate in controlling different strains of dengue. In answer to a question about the high percentage of women working at the institute, Dr. Guzman confirms that 53 out of the 60 scientific and medical personnel are women. teleSUR
