On Sunday the Venezuelan parliament voted to grant President Nicolas Maduro special powers to enable him to issue executive orders to defend the country's national sovereignty against US aggression. The Enabling Law will be in effect for nine months. During a massive rally in Caracas, Maduro told tens of thousands of supporters that a nationwide petition campaign will be held to collect 10 million signatures on a letter calling on the White House to lift its sanctions on Venezuela. teleSUR
