The Venezuelan National Assembly approved an Enabling Law, granting President Nicolas Maduro powers to act against threats from Washington aimed at destabilizing the country and overthrowing the Bolivarian Revolution. The Venezuelan Constitution allows for the adoption of such a law if approved by 60% of the legislators. Maduro said the aim of the legislation was to preserve peace and defend the country against aggression. He said that despite the US threats, this year's elections would proceed as planned. teleSUR
