Formerly a key British territory, the Island of Barbados maintains a heavy British influence, and continues to be a popular tourist hotspot in the Caribbean region. Ihab Anwar and his fellow Semester at Sea classmates enjoyed the chance to visit and tour Barbados’ Port of Bridgetown just last year, as well as to see and explore much of the port town in greater depth. The island, which is the easternmost of all Caribbean Islands, serves as a reminder to academics and vacationers alike of the days of European empire, though the island’s sandy beaches, resorts and warm Caribbean waters continue to be its primary draw for visitors from around the world.
