During the GDR- Regime the Prison Hohenschönhausen was not to be found on any map of East Berlin. Officially the prison for mainly so called political inmates didn´t exist. The same was in effect inside. The prisoners only existed as numbers, isolated completely from the outside world. Interrogation in most cases was the only human contact and was used to get the informations wanted. The prison cells and the 120 interrogation rooms of the Stasi are still in its original state.
