The makers have just released the second trailer of the highly anticipated crime thriller ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy’. The film is based on the detective character Byomkesh Bakshy created by Bengali writer Saridindu Bandopadhyay and is one of the most iconic characters of all time.

The trailer will definitely leave you asking for more. Set in Calcutta in the 1940s, just out of college, Byomkesh pits himself against an evil genius who is out to destroy the world. Watch him unravel his very first mystery, that could quite possibly be his last mistake.
Directed by Dibakar Banerjee, the film also stars Swastika Mukherjee, Anand Tiwari and Meiyang Chang. ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy’ will release worldwide on April 3.

After a spate of films with men as central characters including the forthcoming Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee is now planning to do some women-centric projects.

"Absolutely, definitely, I want to do it. Too much time spent with men now. There are many (ideas) but I am not ready to reveal them now," Dibakar told IANS when asked about possibilities of doing women-oriented films.

For the time being, he is busy promoting Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! which stars Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead role and is slated to release on April 3.

It is based on the fictional detective Byomkesh Bakshi created by the Bengali writer Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay.

The Khosla Ka Ghosla helmer is known to rope in actors from the Bengali film industry, and Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! also has a clutch of actors including actress Swastika, a prominent face in regional movies.

National Award-winning actor Prosenjit Chatterjee was seen in Shanghai. Dibakar hoped regional film industries in India could work together as it happens in Hollywood which pools in talent from Europe, Canada and Australia. "I think there's a need for all film industries in India to get closer, the way the American industry, the British and Australian film industry work together. Imagine the kind of talent pool that Hollywood has and some of them are drawn from Europe, Canada and Australia. The biggest stars are the Australians (Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman)," he said.

Dibakar said Bollywood needs to do the same, especially foster collaborations with the prolific south Indian cinema. "If Bollywood, which is the biggest film industry that represents Indian films (for the lack of a better word), can tap the south film industry, not only in stealing stories or adapting stories but in terms of acting talent, cinematography, I think Indian cinema will go higher," he said.

Understandably, there's a lot of curiosity about Detective Byomkesh Bakshi and there was some speculation that Banerjee had chosen to make this film because of the success of the BBC television series, Sherlock. In a recent interview, Banerjee denied this and said that he finds the comparisions between Byomkesh and Sherlock Holmes ridiculous. "Byomkesh is an original Indian character," said the director.
True enough, but from the little that we see of Detective Byomkesh Bakshi, it seems Banerjee may not be walking the talk. For some reason, Rajput's Byomkesh pronounces the 'y' that is actually silent in his name. Not just that, he's clearly taking a leaf out of James Bond's stylebook when he announces himself as, "Bakshi, Byomkesh Bakshi
Dibakar Banerjee unveiled a teaser for his upcoming release, Detective Byomkesh Bakshi and it's nothing like what most people would have imagined of Saradindu Bandopadhyay's creation. Starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Detective Byomkesh Bakshi is a mystery set in the 1940s. Take a look at the trailer here:
Here's what we do know about Detective Byomkesh Bakshi. Set in 1943, during the World War II, the trailer begins with the Japanese bombarding Calcutta harbour. With its dense shadows and bold splashes of colour, everything about the trailer is mysterious. Banerjee doesn't let us see much of Byomkesh, but we do get a glimpse of his leg and we see his silhouette striking a rather passionate pose with a woman. If there is a film that Detective Byomkesh Bakshi seems vaguely reminiscent of, then it's Shakti Samanta's Howrah Bridge.
Admittedly, none of this sounds even remotely like anything Saradindu Bandopadhyay wrote when he created Byomkesh
