Scientists Discover The Reason Behind Venus’s Mysterious ‘Y’ Shape

A team led by scientists from the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia have determined that Venus’s “Y” shape, a mystery that was first discovered in the 1960s, is driven by super-fast high-altitude atmospheric winds that distort the shape of the cloud layers.

A mysterious shape on Earth’s neighboring planet Venus that was first discovered in the 1960s has now been identified. 

A team led by scientists from the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia has determined that the “Y” shape, which is only visible using ultraviolet imaging, is actually a dense layer of clouds that is pushed into that formation by the planet’s high intensity, variable speed winds.
