Dolce & Gabbana Celebrates Moms On The Runway
Dolce & Gabbana cares about the mammas. Its Fall/Winter 2015 collection, which showed in Milan today, was themed around "The Mother," and, according to the show notes, "explored how the mother is the heart of the family."
To the tune of "Mama" by the Spice Girls, three models carried their children down the runway (all wearing little Dolce outfits) and one model, Bianca Balti, walked pregnant with her second child. The collection featured dresses covered in pictures of the Madonna and Child, sweaters embroidered with the phrase "Mamma," and prints based off of drawings by the designers' own nieces and nephews.
According to the notes, the inspiration for the collection came from Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana's relationships with their own mothers. The designers, who featured elderly Italian women in their Spring campaign, this season wanted to tell a story "of love, positivity, and family. The inherent message," they wrote in their notes, "is allowing fashion to be seen as an extension of where one comes from."
