NASA Model Shows Amount Of Saharan Dust That Travels To Amazon Rainforest

Every year, millions of tons of sands are lifted off of the floor of the Sahara desert and carried by winds across the Atlantic and to the Amazon rainforest.

Satellite data from 2007 through 2013 shows that an estimated 182 million tons of sand are lifted off the floor of the Sahara Desert on average each year and carried by winds across the Atlantic.

Around 27 million tons ends up in the Amazon rainforest.
