President Rafael Correa announced possible cuts in his own salary and those of officials earning more than $6,000 dollars a month by 5 to 10 percent. The purpose is to free up $21 million dollars for the hiring of doctors by the Ministry of Health, particularly those needed to combat maternal mortality
