In a country with one of lowest minimum wages in region, social pressures on Peru’s politicians have resulted in a proposed increase from the executive branch. People cannot live on US$250 a month, say workers who are forced to seek other part time jobs in order to survive. Some analysts believe that due to the upswing in protests by the youth labor movement, the political climate is more favorable for passage of the proposed measure.
