Shortly before 5 in the morning on Sunday, Boston's First Coast Guard District command center made contact with the pair after receiving an "alert beacon signal" from their vessel called Sedona.
The younger man and operator of the 43-foot boat told rescuers that the craft was without power and that its sails had been torn during the harsh weather.
His request was that someone come and get them off of the ship as the storm was getting worse. A crew on a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was sent out to help the men, who were stranded about 150 miles south of the island of Nantucket.
