At a recent conference, a design for a submarine meant to explore bodies of liquid methane on Titan were unveiled by NASA scientists and engineers.

Scientists are hoping to one day send a submarine to explore bodies of methane on one of Saturn's moons.

The concept, designed by the COMPASS team at NASA Glenn Research Center, along with researches from Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory and Penn State Applied Research Lab was unveiled at the 2015 NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts Symposium held in Florida.

Titan, which is sixth planet's largest moon, has various lakes, rivers and seas composed of the liquid chemical compound. Given the opportunity, NASA would focus on exploring Titan's most expansive sea, Kraken Mare.

The concept is for an unmanned submarine to voyage through Kracken Mare for 90 days and cover 1,250 miles. Data collected would be sent back to Earth when the craft surfaces.

Like many oceans on Earth, Kracken Mare experiences tide changes as wel
