Climate models predict that the western part of the US may be in for the worst drought that the area has seen in about a thousand years.

A new study predicts that the western part of the US may be in for the worst drought that the area has seen in about a thousand years.

It’s believed it will begin to set in on the Southwest and Central Plains states by the end of the century and be worse than the period likely responsible for the collapse of the Pueblo Civilization about a millennium ago.

Much of the view of the very dry future is based on a study of tree rings.

Scientists compared both climate models and historical reports with the dry spells indicated by the natural markers to establish a pattern and create a probable scenario for the future.

It was concluded that at some point between 2050 and 2100 drought conditions will set in and linger for about 35 years.

The chance of such visions coming to pass was declared by one of the study’s authors as being about 85 percent.
