Existing earlier as The Gramophone Company of Pakistan, EMI (Pakistan) Ltd. came into being under its current name in 1972. Today, it owns is the largest music archive in Pakistan. Its rich library boasts a range of genres, from pure classical, ghazals, qawwalis, spoken word, instrumentals to film soundtracks and pop. Some of the greatest names in Pakistani music, Noor Jehan, Mehdi Hassan, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Ghulam Ali, Iqbal Bano, Farida Khanum, Ghulam Farid Sabri, Alam Lohar and many others, are associated with the company, which now prides itself in being the custodian of the country’s musical heritage.
Keeping time with new business trends and changing formats, EMI Pakistan has also been extensively servicing digital platforms and distribution channels on a global and domestic level and continues to promote music in the contemporary world.
