2015-02-11 4

Today's edition of Interviews from Caracas looks back at the 1989 people's uprising known as gthe 'Caracazo'. Host Cody Weddle interviews José Luis Martinez, who recounts the desperate conditions of massive unemployment and shortages of food and basic commodities that led to the rebellion and the way hundreds, possibly thousands, of people were shot down in the streets. He speaks of the tremendous changes that came about during the Hugo Chavez presidency and comments on the motives of recent Guarimba protests against the Nicolas Maduro government. Martinez believes that the upcoming release of the Truth and Justice Commission on the Carazaso is especially important so that the Venezuelan people will never forget the history of the events that led to the Bolivarian Revolution. teleSUR
