While going through some of the Hubble Telescope’s many images Judy Schmidt came upon one that looks like there’s a smiley face floating around in space.
In an average week the Hubble Telescope records enough data to fill 36 hundred feet of shelved books.
While going through some of the many images the mission has made available for public perusal Judy Schmidt came upon one that looks like there’s a smiley face floating around in space.
She submitted her find to the Hubble’s Hidden Treasures image competition and ever since her discovery has been getting a lot of attention.
According to the Hubble website, "the two eyes are very bright galaxies and the misleading smile lines are actually arcs caused by an effect known as strong gravitational lensing."
It occurs when galaxy clusters create such an intense pull that they alter both time and space in their vicinity.
