Come February and yet another film of Bollywood’s megastar Amitabh Bachchan will hit the 70mm screen. And this time, it’s ‘Shamitabh’, a film directed and scripted by R Balki. As ‘Shamitabh’ is set to be released soon, let’s take a look at some of the reasons why the film is a must watch:
Balki And Big B’s Third Film Together
Whenever this duo has collaborated, they have delivered masterpieces. ‘Paa’ and ‘Cheeni Kum’ testify the point. Balki has an unusual way of storytelling and that’s what makes his movies unusually interesting. He brings out the hidden shades of the actor in Amitabh in a way none can. ‘Shamitabh’ too will see Amitabh is a very different avatar.
The Deadly Trio
Probably, ‘Shamitabh’ is one of those rare movies that have big names associated with it, though indirectly. Akshara Haasan, younger daughter of legendary Kamal Haasan and Dhanush, son-in-law of megastar Rajinikanth will be romancing each other. The film will also mark the debut of Akshara as an actress.
The Characters
The characters in Shamitabh seem to have unusual characteristics. They come across as surreal mainly due to their complex outlook in the trailer that was launched recently. And hence it would be interesting to see how each of these characters have been sketched and tailored.
Unusual Title Of The Film
Most films have titles that give us a hint about the context and the storyline. But Balki believes in keeping hints under wraps. ‘Cheeni Kum’ and ‘Paa’ have established that. The reason behind film’s title was that the movie had its name derived from the duo’s names in which 'Sh' from Dhanush was added as a prefix to Amitabh, therefore becoming Shamitabh.
Music
Legendary music maestro Ilaiyaraaja has composed music for the film. The veteran’s music have always been melodious and a treat to the ears. His previous works in Bollywood haven’t hit the big time but with the help of one of the best lyricists in Bollywood right now – Swanand Kirkire this would be interesting to hear.
