New offensive against ISIL militants in numerous towns in Iraq

Kurdish peshmerga fighters backed by coalition air strikes have driven ISIL militants out of a village south of Kirkuk in Iraq.

This is part of a new offensive against the group, which also calls itself Islamic State and ISIS.

Operations against the militants in numerous locations reportedly began on Friday.

Iraqi officials released images of a series of air strikes carried out near the Iraqi city of Mosul.

A vehicle and a compound described by officials as ISIL targets were hit.

The US and its allies are helping with air strikes against the militants in Iraq and Syria.
