The clash was captured by cameras mounted above the eagles' nest and posted to YouTube by the Raptor Resource Project. The problem started after a male great horned owl decided to spend some time in the nest.
For quite awhile, he perched on the edge of it and checked out the surroundings. After a few minutes passed, he relaxed and probed around the nest to make himself comfortable.
Then, he began hooting and got a quick response from another bird. Following some back and forth banter, he moved to the other side of the nest and was seemingly on high alert.
