Young workers, activists and independent citizens in Peru took to the streets to celebrate the repeal of the Youth Labor Law, which was approved by the congress last year. The law included cuts in benefits such as compensation for time of service, rewards and family allocations. Polls showed that 70% of the Peruvian population rejected the regulation which could also have been used to fire older employees to avoid paying them adequate wages and benefits, and hire younger employees in their stead. teleSUR
