The man who was the chairman and CEO of the Chicago-based Tootsie Roll Industries recently passed away at the age of 95.
Melvin Gordon is credited with transforming the iconic candy company into the empire that it is today. For more than 50 years, he ran the business.
His work certainly wasn't easy considering the company not only makes the famous candy rolls but also Tootsie Pops, Junior Mints, Blow Pops, Double Bubble gum, Sugar Daddys, Andes mints, DOTS, Crows and Charleston Chews.
On an average day, Gordon oversaw the manufacturing of over 60 million Tootsie Rolls alone. His work schedule was full up until a month before his passing.
