Mumbai has one of the largest hawker populations in country. It has also been witness to many struggles between the hawkers, civil society organizations and the State. Hawking is their livelihood but they have hard times. Despite having registered licenses, hawkers have no place for hawking which force them to stand illegally on streets to earn their livelihood. Corporation officials keeps on giving fake promises of construction of Hawkers Zone.
