Now, Duke University has announced its own plans to sounds Muslim calls of prayer, and that decision has gotten some people quite riled up.
The call will be chanted by members of the Duke Muslim Students Association, last a few minutes, and be somewhat amplified.
The chapel’s associate dean for religious life said that the move, "represents a larger commitment to religious pluralism that is at the heart of Duke's mission."
It was further noted that the Muslim call that will be sounding is not unlike the bells that chime prior to Christian services.
Since the announcement was made, some have stepped forward to comment upon and even challenge it.
