Chipotle has temporarily removed pork from the menus of about a third of its franchises.

Chipotle has made an announcement that will no doubt result in a lot of disappointed carnitas fans.

The burrito chain has temporarily removed pork from the menus of about a third of its franchises.

That decision followed an inspection of one of their purveyor’s facilities that revealed the provider fell short of Chipotle’s standards.

The restaurant requires that pigs have access to the outdoors and that their barn accommodations have deeply bedded floors.

A spokesperson for the chain commented, “The differences in animal welfare between pigs raised this way and pigs that are conventionally raised are stark, and we simply won’t compromise our standards this way.”

The unnamed resource hadn’t previously failed any standard checks.

Chipotle is unsure how long it will take to get the supply flowing again at the outlets affected.
