On Monday night, a teenage boy was shot and killed in Florida. The two younger sisters of the victim, identified as 16-year-old Damien Kornegay, are accused of murdering him.
According to police, 15-year-old Misty Kornegay retrieved a firearm from her parents’ room and shot her brother. Misty’s 11-year-old sister, Nicole was her alleged accomplice.
Misty and Nicole walked away from the scene together and left their younger 3-year-old sibling home alone. Police were tipped off about the crime after Nicole told a friend’s mother she ran away from home.
The woman contacted officers and after some questioning, the older sister Misty, eventually told a cop what went on inside the house. Deputies were then dispatched to the Kornegay’s home, where the teen’s body was discovered in the living room.
Both girls have been arrested and are facing a charge of premeditated murder.
The parents were approximately three hours way when they learned what happened. The couple returned right away and was later arrested for child neglect, as they left the kids unsupervised while they were away.
The three-year-old is unharmed and the child’s care has since been taken over by the Department of Children and Families. No official motive for the killing has been released, however Misty told detectives her brother had assaulted her and locked her in her room prior to the shooting.
