They came to mourn their family members -- mostly young, many of them women -- who were killed in a stampede on New Year's Eve on the riverside area of Shanghai known as the Bund.

UPSOUND

One woman was overcome with grief yelling out that she wants her child back.

But the event took place under tight security and the woman was quickly moved away from the cameras.

At least 36 people were killed in the tragedy.

Monday marked the seventh day since their deaths -- the height of the mourning period in Chinese tradition.

Many family members complain they haven't been getting any answers from authorities about what happend and say they been pressured not to air their grievances.

This man yelled out to the media to file their reports before he too was escorted away.

The stampede was the city's worst accident since 58 people were killed in an apartment building fire in 2010.
