Seemingly small gestures from strangers can often make a huge difference in a person’s life. For a teen named Anthony, pictures from people all over the world are helping him smile while he battles leukemia.

The trend started on Facebook after a family friend started an event titled ‘Photo Doggies for Anthony’ and asked for users to submit photos of their canines for him.

In a very short duration of time, the event went viral. Not only were images being submitted, but well-wishers from across the world started sending sweet messages to Anthony.

Anthony sometimes gets so-called ‘doggy visits’ at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and those canine encounters make his day. Their friend thought photos of dogs he’d never seen before would help lift his spirits even more.

The idea was a huge success and not just in terms of popularity. Both 16-year-old Anthony and his mother are having quite a few laughs from the posted photos and videos.

His mom posted a note on the event page that reads in part “Your pets have brightened our days so much and it just shows you the power of pet therapy and animal healing. Thank you all so much from the bottom of our hearts.”
