Don't know Mixolydian? Play D Minor but stress C as your root. You will get a Grateful Dead & Country sound. There is only a one note difference between Mixolydian and Major. In Mixolydian the 7th is flatted. So, C Mixolydian has Bb, whereas C Major has B. That one simple difference makes a huge difference in the sound of the scale.
