Uncontrolled Australia fire destroys dozens of homes, livestock at risk

Devastation in Adelaide Hills for residents in the state of South Australia.

A large uncontrolled fire is burning through the region, already destroying dozens of homes, sending people into mandatory evacuations, and leaving its mark on local wildlife.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) UNIDENTIFIED RESIDENT SAYING:

"We just quickly went back and got a couple of things and they just said, look, we can't save everyone's house, they just said, look, yours and your neighbors are going to be part of them.

More than 500 fire-fighters are battling the blaze, which started Friday.

Roads have been closed and residents haven't been able to get out their livestock.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) UNIDENTIFIED RESIDENT SAYING:

"I pray to god that everyone is all right over there, but of course none of us can get over there to see or even help."

Evacuation centers have been opened for people who had to abandon their homes and fire crews are reaching out beyond the state fo
