Three family members in Utah are incredibly lucky to have survived a horrific accident involving a tanker truck.

On Tuesday, the driver, identified as Heather Slack had been traveling down a major interstate with her 10-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter. At one point, she attempted to switch lanes and that’s when things took a very sudden turn for the worse.

The family’s green Toyota Avalon hit a patch of black ice and as a result Slack lost control of the vehicle. The car was shot across the roadway before sliding underneath the moving tanker.

It was pinned there and dragged roughly 600 feet before the rig was able to make a complete stop. Slack and her two children were all inside the vehicle.

Even though the Avalon’s roof was essentially crushed, the crumpled up portions of the vehicle created what Slack calls pods and they prevented the family from getting hurt.

First responders, including officials from the fire department arrived on scene to help the family get out safely. Utah Highway Patrol spokesperson Sergeant Blaine Robbins commented “No fatalities. No injuries. It's an absolute miracle that there were no injuries in this particular crash. I can't reiterate how lucky these people are. It's unreal. They're very, very lucky.”
