A couple in Oregon has been reunited with their cat after the animal was mistakenly sold with a box spring.
Roy Dufek confirmed the feline named Camo is now back home in a Facebook post. On Saturday evening, Dufek’s girlfriend, Hayley Crews set up a trap and caught the cat after a caller reported seeing him in an area west of Portland.
Crews used sardines and old clothing as bait for the trap. After installing it near the location of the sighting, she returned about 90 minutes later and found her beloved feline in there.
Although the couple was thrilled to see him again, Camo wasn’t in the best shape initially. The cat’s lip was cut, his paws were bleeding and the nails were broken. Camo had also lost some weight.
Dufek remarked “The vet gave him an antibiotic shot, a good inspection. .... Hayley gave him a bath and he's been cleaning himself vigorously since. All is good.”
Dufek sold Crews’ bed on December 17th and didn’t notice the cat was missing until the buyer left. It was then he realized Camo had likely hidden in the box spring.
The couple believes that he traveled more than 5 miles inside the box spring that had been strapped to the roof of the buyer’s car. Camo then spent a week and a half on his own outside.
