STORY: The widow of slain New York City Officer Rafael Ramos on Saturday (December 27) tearfully accepted the folded burial flag that had draped his casket.

Thousands of uniformed officers from across the United States stood in salute outside Christ Tabernacle Church as Ramos' coffin was carried out before being transported to his final resting place.

Ramos, 40, was killed execution style in Brooklyn on December 20 alongside his partner Officer Wenjian Liu as both men sat in their patrol car. Their killer had said on social media that he wanted to avenge recent fatal police shootings of unarmed black men.

The officer's deaths galvanized police departments around the country to show their support of their fallen comrades and of his surviving family, which include two teenage sons.
