A cockatoo that was stuck on top of a palm tree is now safe thanks to firefighters in Australia. The owner had been at a beach and feeding the bird when a strong wind came by.
As a result, the cockatoo was lifted up and blown over to a palm tree where it landed. The woman waited for her bird to come down on its own for a few hours, however the cockatoo had its wings clipped so it couldn’t fly out of the tree and land in a safe manner.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was contacted for assistance but no one was able to help. The Metropolitan Fire Brigade arrived on scene and with assistance from a truck and a ladder platform, a man was able to reach the cockatoo.
Ben Schutt, the leading firefighter was lifted up to the top of the tree and once close enough, he reached out and gently took hold of the bird.
As they were lowered to the ground, Schutt allowed the cockatoo to perch on his hands and arms. The entire operation lasted about 20 minutes.
