The Google-owned company, Nest Labs specializes in designing and manufacturing smart thermostats and home safety devices.

The company recently turned an aerial lift at the Squaw Valley side of the Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows ski resort in Olympic Valley, California into what they refer to as a ‘Mountain Home in the Sky’.

Called The Nest Express, it’s a ski gondola, but has some added bonuses. It actually resembles the interior of a home, specifically a living room.

The space has benches that are custom wrapped, cedar wood interior and even artwork hung on the walls. The area also has a Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detector called the Nest Protect and a Nest Learning Thermostat.

Both devices interact with visitors. The Nest Protect greets them as they arrive and the thermostat speaks to a captive audience for the entire journey up the mountain.

The company notes “The Nest Express is part of our mission to reinvent neglected things - to make them warm, simple, beautiful. And what could be more in need of reinvention than the icy bite of a metal bench so cold you can feel it through your ski pants?”

The Nest Express is one example of Nest Labs’ ‘The Thoughtful Things’ campaign. The lift will be offering rides to snowboarders and skiers all winter long.
