A California woman recently got an early Christmas present. On Monday morning, Lynda Alsip was reunited with her beloved car after it was stolen nearly three decades ago.

The 1967 Ford Mustang was her very first ride. She purchased the car at the age of 17 for $800 with some financial help from her father who has since died.

Sadly the Mustang was stolen about a year later outside her Salinas residence while she was out of town. Life went on for her and she never saw the green car again, that is until this week.

For 28 long years, no red flags were raised indicating a potential location on the stolen auto. In September, however a man tried to register a green Mustang at the California Department of Motor Vehicles. DMV employees couldn’t find previous documentation on the vintage car.

The man was directed to California Highway Patrol and officers were able to trace its history. Alsip was soon contacted and learned her car had been found, but she had to wait for the preliminary investigation and answer quite a few questions.

Now she’s officially got it back and speaking of her father she stated “He'd laugh and go, 'Kid, only you.' My dad would be very happy for me.”

The investigation into the case is still ongoing, but the Salinas man who formerly had the vehicle reportedly purchased it in 1991; 5 years after it was stolen from the same area.
