Counter-terrorism police in Sydney said two men have been arrested after officials intercepted a heightened level of "terrorist chatter" in the aftermath of the deadly cafe siege last week.

"Obviously, I don't want to go into too much operational detail but there was enough there that gave concern to us that something was being planned and that's why a person was charged in relation to having a document that was designed to clearly facilitate an attack."
Police said a 20 year-old man was charged with possession of documents designed to facilitate a terrorist attack and a 21 year old man was charged with breaching a control order.
The arrests come during a sensitive time for the country after two civilians died during a 16 hour hostage crisis inside a Lindt cafe in Sydney's business district.
The hostage taker, who also died, had been facing numerous charges for violent crimes.
